Community and Consumer Involvement: Our Commitment
We believe that health and medical research achieves its greatest impact when it is carried out with and by the people it aims to serve. Integrating the lived experiences of patients and families is essential to ensuring that research questions are meaningful, results are relevant, and findings are effectively translated into practice.
As the "Community Voice" for immunisation, we champion a partnership model where consumers are respected as equal contributors to the research process. This collaboration strengthens public trust, improves the quality of clinical studies, and ensures that the needs of Australian families remain the primary focus of every medical advancement.
Leading Research Partners
We are proud to work with a network of world-class research projects and institutions across the healthcare sector, research institutions, and universities. These collaborations enable us to reach more communities and ensure our advocacy is grounded in the latest scientific evidence.
Institutional Partners
The Kids Research Institute Australia: A key partner in investigating infectious diseases and developing practical tools for child health.
Vaccine Trials Group (VTG): Part of the Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines and Infectious Diseases, the VTG evaluates new vaccines for a range of conditions, including influenza, meningococcal, and pneumococcal diseases, to protect children from serious infection.
National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS): We collaborate with NCIRS to ensure consumer perspectives are integrated into national immunisation research and surveillance.
Collaborative Research Projects
STAMP, RISE, and DOMINO: Projects focused on understanding vaccine uptake and improving health outcomes across different populations.
MandEval and Coronavax: Research initiatives exploring the social and policy aspects of vaccination to improve community acceptance.
Riley Hughes Memorial Award
Established to honour the legacy of Riley Hughes, this award recognises researchers who demonstrate excellence in the field of whooping cough and maternal immunisation. By supporting those at the forefront of pertussis research, we continue our commitment to protecting infants and promoting high maternal vaccination rates.
NHMRC Impact Case Study
Our unique approach to advocacy is featured as a national success story by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The case study, "Increasing Vaccination Coverage," illustrates how our community-driven campaigns, like Light for Riley, have successfully influenced national policy and protected individuals and families from vaccine-preventable diseases.
