Diabetes Mellitus & Aromatherapy

This paper gives a thorough overview of Diabetes Mellitus. With tables on normal blood glucose balance before and after eating, types of diabetes and the main characteristics, risk factors for development of type 2 diabetes and long term complications.

Trisha goes on to explain aromatherapy as a complementary role with the medical management of diabetes. While a thorough consultation and an assessment of the individual would need to take place before any essential oils should be used, she does suggest essential oils for specific diabetic related complications eg. To help the control of blood fats (cholesterol and triglycerides) one of the suggested oils is Juniperus communis.

The paper also points out precautions an aromatherapist would consider when treating a diabetic person . This is a comprehensive article and a must for any aromatherapists who is treating people with diabetes.
